Simple summer base

Summer Skin - UD Naked Skin Concealer, Buberry Light Glow, Hourglass Diffused Light Cargo foundationMuch like everyone else, I try to make my base products lighter and glowier in the summer, but I don’t like to completely sacrifice coverage; I like freckles etc to show through but I’d rather than acne scars and pigmentation were less visible. To be honest, that doesn’t really change throughout the year but in winter I guess I like a slightly more matte finish with the glow added on top, rather than incorporated into the foundation.

My current preferred warm weather combo is the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Skin Base in Nude RadianceCargo Cosmetics Liquid Foundation, Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Power in Diffused Light. The Burberry Fresh Glow can be used before foundation, as a primer, or just mixed in to add some glow without sparkle. I love the texture on the skin – it’s cooling and spreads really easily – and mixes brilliantly with the Cargo foundation. The shade I have in the latter is 10, described as ‘soft ivory ideal for very fair skin with warm undertones’, and it’s pale enough that I can get away without adding any white if I only wear a sheer amount. I love the packaging and the buildable coverage (and the fact that it can occasionally be found in TK Maxx for £3.99).

My beloved UD concealer is perfect for the summer, as it provides coverage for both blemishes and under-eye circles but is lightweight and glowy. Finally, the excellent Hourglass Diffused Light is the ideal powder for warmer weather – it’s a finishing powder rather than a setting powder so probably won’t stop oily skin becoming shiny, but for my dehydrated combination skin it sets my makeup without being drying. The yellow tone takes neutralises mild redness and the very faint shimmer adds glow and freshness without being glittery.

What makeup do you turn to in summer?
