Saving face: Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cream

Goat cream

This is one of my favourite skin care items, of any type. A friend brought me a pot from the States a couple of years ago and it was love at first use. Caroline Hirons also loves it, so I’m in good skincare company. It’s perfect for my skin, which can be sensitive, confused, combination and spot-prone.

The cream itself has a light texture but still packs a punch when it comes to imparting moisture. The first ingredient is aloe vera juice, for some serious skin-soothing power, and there’s lactic acid from the goat milk to act as a mild exfoliant which can help skin clear and balanced. It absorbs pretty quickly, providing you don’t go mad with the amount you use, but I do prefer to use it in the evening because it isn’t the best base for make-up.

I don’t use it all the time but when my skin is having a proper tantrum this stuff really helps to calm it down. I also adore the packaging – all moisturisers should come in pots with in-built pumps. It’s not as good as a tube for travelling, obviously, but it’s hygienic and easy to use and also disturbingly satisfying to use.

The worst thing about it is how hard it is to get hold of. Kate Somerville do now ship to the UK but it costs $25, which is a tad crazy, so begging/bribing someone to go to Sephora for you is the way to go. It’s $65, so spendy but definitely worth it.
