I’ve always liked handbags more than shoes. Don’t get me wrong, I can still admire the beauty of a pair of Louboutin heels, but the appreciation is always tempered with a knowledge and fear of the pain involved in wearing them. I’m terrible in heels, mainly because I rarely wear them, and am happiest in my battered Converse or pumps, although I’m also really fussy about the shape of those as I have easily-rubbed feet. Basically, I’m all about comfort so if I could spend the majority of my time in flip flops or slippers I would.
Handbags, on the other hand, I love. I have several despite usually using the same three on rotation, but I keep seeing ones I love. Unlike with nail polishes, I have some self-control when it comes to actually buying them but it doesn’t stop me looking (a lot). Last summer I really wanted a cross-body bag in yellow and I found myself coming back again and again to the one below, from Edinburgh-based Bohemia Design. All of their bags are ethically produced and handmade and I want a lot of them.
The one I went for is really nice leather, sturdy and not too shiny, and you can fit just about enough in it. I’d like to it be an inch or so larger but I can get a long purse, a paperback (although think Where’d You Go, Bernadette? rather than Wolf Hall), a couple of lipsticks, a phone, and sunglasses in if I squish it a bit. I adore the colour and it looks fantastic with black or jeans (or both). It’s £75 here.
Look at this colour! It’s labelled as ‘slightly seconds’, but it looks fine to me and frankly I like a bit of wonk. It would be brilliant in the summer but would also brighten up even the cloudiest of grey days. It’s in the sale for £45.
Bohemia also so lovely tote bags. This one is heavy canvas with suede straps and around the base. It seems a bit spendy initially but it’s 45cm x 40cm so you could fit several kittens in it. Find it here for £80 in the lovely colbalt, or choose one of the six other colours including the magnificent pomegranate.
Apparently I’m obsessed with the pomegranate canvas and tan suede combo so I love this weekend bag. The frame and buckles are brilliant – it’s a bright pink doctors’ bag. The NHS would be a brighter organisation if all doctors carried these. This is £125 here.
This leather beauty is just gorgeous. The leather looks really soft and I bet it smells marvellous. I want to throw a change of clothes and my toothbrush (and 47 cleansers, obviously) into this and run away somewhere fancy for the weekend. It’s £175 here.
Are you tempted by any of Bohemia’s lovely lovely bags?
